Description

The Clos du Marquis 2005–2010–2015 Magnum Gift Set is a distinguished three-bottle collection featuring magnums of one of Saint-Julien’s most respected wines from three outstanding Bordeaux vintages. Presented in large format, this vertical showcases the aging evolution and consistent excellence of Clos du Marquis—a wine that stands proudly on its own, while historically linked to the prestigious Léoville Las Cases estate.

Originally conceived as a second wine, Clos du Marquis has long since earned its reputation as a separate cuvée, sourced from distinct vineyard parcels within the Saint-Julien appellation. These terroirs, situated further from the river and composed of deep gravel and clay, give rise to wines of classical structure, refined tannins, and remarkable aging potential. In magnum format, the depth and complexity of each vintage are amplified, making this an exceptional gift for Bordeaux collectors and connoisseurs alike.

Together, the 2005, 2010, and 2015 vintages offer a masterclass in Left Bank Cabernet expression—each reflecting the signature style of Clos du Marquis: poised, powerful, and elegantly restrained.

(1x) Clos du Marquis 2005 1500ml – 13.45% ABV
The 2005 vintage is widely celebrated as one of the greatest Bordeaux vintages of the early 21st century, and Clos du Marquis delivers a classically styled, age-worthy Saint-Julien that beautifully reflects the vintage’s concentration, balance, and depth. Now approaching full maturity, the wine in magnum format offers extended development and added complexity.

On the nose, earthy notes of forest floor and subtle mushroom evolve into aromas of red berries and dried herbs. The palate is round and expressive, with ripe fruit character framed by mellowing tannins and a graceful structure. Still retaining freshness and grip, it is a wine entering its prime, with further evolution ahead.

Critic Tasting Notes: “Musty and mushroomy, with red fruit chasers on the nose and palate. Round and fruity.” – James Suckling (92 pts)

(1x) Clos du Marquis 2010 1500ml – 13.8% ABV
A vintage of power and precision, 2010 stands among the most structured and age-worthy in recent Bordeaux history. Clos du Marquis in this exceptional year delivers a wine of remarkable depth and finesse, now beginning to emerge from its youthful austerity into expressive maturity—especially in magnum format, which enhances both longevity and aromatic development.

The bouquet is perfumed and vibrant, with layered aromas of wild raspberries, blackberries, and fresh flowers. On the palate, it is full-bodied and impeccably textured, with ultra-silky tannins and a long, seamless finish that lingers for minutes. This is a poised and polished Saint-Julien with years of evolution ahead.

Critic’s Tasting Notes: This shows beautiful aromas of flowers, raspberries and blackberries that follow through to a full body with ultra silky tannins and a long, long finish. It lasts for minutes. Best in 2018 or later.” – James Suckling (96 pts)

(1x) Clos du Marquis 2015 1500ml – 13.8% ABV
The 2015 vintage in Saint-Julien was marked by ideal ripening conditions, producing wines of charm, balance, and expressive fruit. Clos du Marquis 2015 captures the vintage’s generous character with a seductive, polished style, while retaining the estate’s hallmark structure and precision. In magnum format, this wine offers added aging potential and aromatic complexity.

The nose is intensely perfumed, with layers of blackberry, plum, and forest bark, lifted by citrusy notes of lemon rind. Full-bodied and velvety, the palate is rich and layered, showcasing dark berry and chocolate tones wrapped in a creamy texture. Focused and refined, this is a beautifully crafted wine that is both approachable and built to age gracefully.

Critic’s Tasting Notes: “Extremely perfumed with blackberries, plums and bark. Lemon-rind undertones. Full-bodied, creamy, velvety and voluptuous yet focused and pinpointed. Intense dark-berry and chocolate flavors. Really well done. Drink in 2021.” – James Suckling (95 pts)
